Dave Sewell has delivered innovative technology solutions across numerous industries since 1993.  He began his career as a database developer and then progressed to management and executive positions at all the organizations he worked with.  Throughout his career, Dave has maintained a hands-on approach to managing technology, which has helped him develop high performing technology teams.  Companies seek him out to resolve companywide problems that require technical insights coupled with strategic leadership.

 

Dave’s approach to technology management transforms technology opportunities into superior business results through a relentless focus on operational excellence and building partnerships with customers, employees, and vendors.  He aligns every technology investment to meaningful business results and leads technology teams through three phases: Stabilization, Standardization, and Optimization.  Each phase delivers increasing returns from technology investments and improves the business innovations.

 

An accomplished senior executive with over 20 years in Information Technology, his experience includes technology management, business strategy, software development, emerging technologies, advanced data analytics, business process re-engineering, merger integrations, and complex project implementations.

Dave began his career as a database developer for a global telecommunications company, Teltrust, where he developed a call processing system capable of processing over 2 trillion call records. On modern hardware, the same software could process over 17 quintillion call records and over an Exabyte of data, the equivalent of every person on earth making over a billion phone calls.

After a promotion to a manager position at Teltrust in 1998, Dave moved into the Mortgage Banking industry at Select Portfolio Servicing to help them manage growth from less than 10,000 customers to over 1.36 million customers in under three years. As part of the technology initiatives that Dave directed, he delivered over $131 million in net revenue for the company by creating an industry leading, custom finance and ERP system.

 

In 2005, CoreLogic recruited Dave to introduce the software company into a new vertical market, the Mortgage Servicing industry. In less than a year, he connected existing products from CoreLogic into multi-million returns on investment opportunities for the company's customer base.  

 

After helping CoreLogic enter the mortgage servicing market in 2006, Dave joined the executive team at Strongwood Insurance Holdings, a combination of five separate insurance-related companies. Dave collaborated with the Strongwood companies to help the technology team develop into an optimized group that turned some business lines from operating at a loss to a net profit through data-driven automation. After performing a pivotal role in preparing the company for an IPO, Dave then adapted the technology direction to execute a strategy change from the Strongwood investors to separate the Strongwood companies into smaller groups and sell them individually.

 

Once the sale of the Strongwood companies was complete, Mountain West Farm Bureau Insurance engaged Dave in 2014 to help them develop a technology strategy and optimize their project management, governance, vendor management, customer service, policy processing, claims systems, data analytics, and communications. With a 25% increase in project delivery and improving the company's net revenue by over 38% in the first six months through technology initiatives, Dave quickly created the desperately needed partnership between the technology department and the rest of the company.  For the first time in the company’s history, the technology group received a standing ovation for their achievements from the 200 person sales staff during the technology roadmap presentation.

 

Throughout his career as a technology advisor, Dave has provided innovative solutions that solved seemingly impossible problems while creating strategic roadmaps that are obtainable.   In Utah, he developed local CIOs by helping them deliver value from emerging technologies and organized technology groups that gained recognition from the governor of Utah, NASA, and the White House Technology Office. 

 

Dave helped lead competitions that developed new big data talent, examined climate change and air quality, connected social media with real profits, predicted spending patterns, forecast popularity of songs based on a .3 second sample, and created algorithms 17 times more accurate than Google’s. The innovations from these projects opened doors to help people rethink driving patterns, target marketing, and discover ways to monitor newborns for anomalies in their breathing patterns. 

Dave has lead technology initiatives that enabled people, connected teams, and created bottom line revenue for companies across the Insurance, Financial Services, Mortgage Banking, Software, Retail, and Telecommunications industries. That experience delivers tangible value from technology investments, provides business opportunities and creates loyal customers.  With consulting engagements in the Financial Services, Retail, Technology, Marketing, Consumer Finance, and Insurance industries, Dave created over $1.4 billion in revenue opportunities for his clients.

 

Dave holds a Masters of Business Administration from Westminster College and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah in Computer Science and Communication.  He is also the chairperson for a technology group in the Utah Association for Information Management that focuses on building skills for local CIOs.

 

Outside of work, Dave volunteers with community theaters, mentoring programs, and educating teenagers on technology and life values.  He enjoys everything in the outdoors, escaping the electronic tethers, photography, and the occasional Nerf war with his children.
